Chennai Box Office (Nov25to30)

December 02, 2008
It was one of the worst weekends in the history of CBO. The rains in the city and the Mumbai terror attacks, that numbed the conscience of the people, had an effect on collections. Even the multiplexes were down during the weekends, as people preferred to watch television news channels.

Gautham Vasudev Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram remains the number one show, with families making it successful in the city multiplexes. Thenavattu remains steady at number two, and single screens like Melody, Agasthiya and Ganapathy Ram claiming that it is one of the best openings of the year.

Everybody has been raving about Poo, which has taken a decent opening and would have been better if there were no rains and had a solo release. The film like others in the genre is a slow opener that will pick up in the coming days due to good word-of –mouth.

In the fourth position is the Malayalam film Twenty:20, which is extraordinary as it has grossed nearly Rs 24 lakhs in 10 days from four screens. In the fifth place is the super hit Dostana, which continues to rock in its third week.
