Anu - Movie Review
January 19, 2009
Cast :Pooja Gandhi, Baalu, Nagakiran, Rashmi, Dattanna, Sania,
Director :Shivaganapathi
Very rarely we see a film that can be categorized in a particular genre. Even films on rowdies have a love story attached to it with some sentimental scenes that try to make you cry as well. But 'Anu' has no pretensions about what it sets out to be, a horror-thriller. And it succeeds. The film is a remake of the Telugu film 'Anusuya.'
Anu (Pooja Gandhi) joins a television news channel as a reporter. Her investigative reporting is a hit right away. In the meanwhile the city is stalked by a serial killer. The 'red rose' killer is named such because he leaves behind a red rose on the bodies of his victims.
He also makes away with one or the other organ of his victims, an eye from one, the heart from one and so on. By co-incidence Anu sees the killer just after a murder. But when he is nabbed he turns out to be a cripple.
Every clue is leading to a dead end and even her job is on the line because of her alleged mistakes. But more worrying is the fact that the serial killer is after Anu herself or someone close to her!
The film is nicely executed and Pooja Gandhi's acting is brilliant. This could easily be her best performance to date. Producer Baalu who also plays the role of the serial killer is good as the killer but needs improvement with his dialogue delivery and acting as a normal person.
The roles of Sundar Raj and Achuth are not believable. Those characters might have worked in Telugu but in 'Anu' they turn out to be buffoons.
If you want to scare yourself do not miss this film..
