'Rajneeti' hits the Censor hurdle

May 21, 2010
There seems to be no end in sight for the woes of director Prakash Jha. After facing a lawsuit filed by a social activist against the alleged similarity between Katrina Kaif's character in the film and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the film has now hit a hurdle at the Censor Board.

The Board officials saw the film recently but did not grant it any certificate. Reason? Some of the members apparently feel that a few sequences are too 'hard hitting' for the aam janta to digest.

It's not clear whether the members found any similarity between Kat's character Indu and Sonia Gandhi. But the movie has now been referred to the Revising Committee for a broad opinion. The final call on the certification will be taken after the Committee watches the film.

'Rajneeti' is slated to release on June 4. The movie stars a host of actors, including Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpai and Naseeruddin Shah. Prakash Jha has described the film a modern interpretation of The Mahabharata.
